The other day, I visited the library and found these books: They are locally made by a group known as Sibey Nostalgic (http://www.facebook.com/sibeynostalgic). Each book will teach you 52 basic words in Singaporean Hokkien, Cantonese, or Teochew (apparently, there’s also a Hainanese edition, but the library didn’t have it). I specifically mentioned “Singaporean,” because many of these dialect words are …
Good morning! Rise and shine! This was how I started my day. Ouch… Well, have a great Sunday! =)
I’ve been trying my best to update this on a regular basis, but it’s not been easy because of a lack of ideas. Anyway, I learnt this fun Chinese fact today! You can check a Chinese dictionary to verify. =D The tomato is barbaric (foreign) because it was brought into China from the other side of the world. If you …
My apologies for not posting anything the past few days. Felt like doing absolutely nothing these past few days since the holidays started. The holiday paradox is so true. Is it true for you too?
Had this conversation with a friend the other day. Heehee… Here’s a new way of looking at Singapore’s popular national song.
Yesterday, someone remarked that he knows of a Confucian Fangirl. Was inspired to draw this today after spending the whole day studying Confucian texts. Wanted to give her a pony tail, but I can’t seem to get draw it right. The Chinese words in calligraphy style were painfully traced using the digital tablet. Not easy, but it’s amazing what a …
There seems to be a rising popularity in those “Do X and Carry On”. Here’s my version for those who need the motivation to study for the upcoming exams…
Drew this after a funny incident happened a few days ago… Had spent the whole night up writing an essay. Took a nap the next morning in the library. 30 minutes later, I woke up wanting to scream, “WHO AM I?! WHY AM I HERE?!” Good thing something was telling me that this is a place of silence, otherwise it …
I had the idea to draw this several weeks ago when I learnt about Hades from my Greek philosophy class. Finally got down to doing it. Engineers, scientists, mathematicians, philosophers, everybody! Here’s a quiz for you… Can you identify the quotes/formulae/code at the bottom? =)
Finally drew something after many days of my essay marathon.
I feel like this sometimes. This image was drawn using a digital tablet which I got from a friend. First attempt. What do you guys think?
Had insomnia last night and decided to draw this (and a few other drawings) last night. If you noticed, all great philosophers have awesome beards and moustaches. No matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to grow one. Maybe I haven’t reached that level of greatness yet.
Sketched this while having insomnia. For non-Singaporeans: “blur” means “confused”.
Drew this two days ago while on the train. This is probably how my friends and I are feeling right now with the semester coming to an end, and with work piling up like there’s no tomorrow.
Drew this today while on the train. Was inspired to draw this after a conversation with a friend.
A really really quick history of philosophy – no… not exactly… It’s more a caricature of history. =P If you’re curious why the Greeks are vomiting, see “Vomiting Bile” and “What the Myths Don’t Tell You”
Don’t mess with the gongfu guy!
I discovered what the 攵 graph meant while trying to search up the etymology of the word, teach (教). 攵 means to hold a stick to beat! Much later, I realised that those words with that graph actually have something to do with beating.
Here’s an alternate reality to the popular Christmas song.
“The devil is in the details.” One of my professor’s favourite lines.
