I’d like to introduce you to my latest finding:
It’s the Lavazza Qualita Oro!
I bought my first bag about two months ago (I’m now on my second bag) from Isetan at Westgate Mall, when I ran out of coffee and desperately needed a new bag of beans for the office. It costs SGD$16, about twice the price of my regular bag of coffee (BonCafe). But I thought… why not give it a try?
I certainly did not regret the purchase.
When I first opened the bag, I was greeted with the most fragrant coffee aroma I have ever encountered.
I’ve come across coffee that smelled amazing, but this was a different level of amazing altogether. You do not understand the definition of “heavenly” until you’ve smelled this coffee.
I passed the coffee around to my coffee-loving colleagues. They too were exhilarated by the aroma, and off we went to make our first brew at our pantry’s espresso machine.
All three of us agreed that this is the best coffee we’ve drank – EVER.
What do I love about it? It’s so rich in flavour, has a smooth and somewhat creamy texture, even when you drink it black! The taste is the right balance of bitter, a trace of acidity, with a tinge of the bean’s natural sweetness.
Most importantly, it does not leave a bad after taste or feeling like many other coffees I’ve tried. There’s a subtle sweetness that lingers on which brings a smile on my face every morning. It reminds me of what an amazing cup of coffee I had.
One of the incredible things about this brand is that the beans are still able to remain fresh and fragrant long after the bag has been opened. The problem I have with other brands of beans is that they tend to lose their fragrance and rich taste 3 weeks after the bag has been opened. The Lavazza beans remained fragrant and fresh even after 6 weeks!
With the incredible pleasure derived from smelling the beans, drinking the coffee, and the fact that these beans can stay fresh for so long, I can say with great delight that the Lavazza Qualita Oro has made it to the top of my list, and I’ve decided to make this my regular brew.
One word of caution: Do not buy this coffee from NTUC Fairprice Finest/Xtra supermarket. While it is a dollar cheaper there, the Lavazza coffee beans they sell are incredibly stale (has a lao hong 漏风 smell). Better to buy it from Isetan.
