This is really cool! There’s this new vending machine in school that promises to dispense tasty hot meals in minutes! Last week, The Girlfriend and I decided to give it a go!
Here’s a look at the menu:
They also have Curry Chicken with rice. For whatever reason, I forgot to photograph that menu item.
Anyway, did you see that? The picture of the food looks sooooo good! My mouth was watering just looking at the images on screen.
My only annoyance was that the user interface was really ugly. Such a pity considering how the machine was so nicely designed.
Anyway, I bought the Yang Chou Fried Rice, while The Girlfriend bought the Hor Fun Special.
Here’s a picture of the machine counting down:
Each item took about 3 minutes (180s) to defrost and cook. (I’m guessing it went through a microwave machine).
Now, here’s where it gets interesting. If you order such meals, how are you going to eat them? Well, as it turns out, once you’ve placed your order, the machine will dispense some cutlery!
Out comes a little paper box from the side of the machine. In each cutlery box, you get a fork and a spoon, and a paper napkin.
To be honest, I think it’s really wasteful for them to provide cutlery in a paper box. Then again, I can’t think of a better way to automatically dispense plastic cutlery. It’s not a good idea to leave it out for people to use as there will be people who will abuse the free plastic forks and spoons. Ah well… You gain some, you lose some.
Anyway, we were eagerly waiting for our meals to be done…
5… 4… 3… 2… 1… Your hot meal is ready!
Oh gosh… You know the warning about how the food is really hot? It’s no joke! Even the container was super hot! I burnt my finger trying to pull the box out of the dispenser. Well, it wasn’t a bad burn, but yeah… Ouch.
Here’s my Yang Chou Fried Rice:
And here it is after peeling off the plastic wrap:
Oh wow! It was soooooo FRAGRANT! It’s not something I would have expected from a vending machine! Wow!
As for taste? Wow… It was really good! Ok, it didn’t exactly taste like fried rice. It felt more like steamed rice, but at least they got the fried rice ingredients there. But hey! It was sooooo good! Very very delicious! YUM!
As for The Girlfriend’s Hor Fun Special?
Well, after peeling off the plastic cover, we were greeted with the wonderful fragrant smell of hor fun! It does smell a lot like the hor fun from your regular Tze Char stall! Soooo fragrant! How do they do it?
Anyway, here’s how it looks:
It’s really amazing just how generous they are with the food! So many prawns, slices of fishcakes and more!
I think the hor fun tastes way better than the fried rice. In fact, the hor fun is so well done that it tastes about the same as what you can get from a Tze Char stall!
My only complaint about the food is that the portion wasn’t enough. It was just enough to satisfy my hunger, but not enough to make me fill satisfied. Haha… I guess I might have been feeling extra greedy that day, especially since the food tasted so good! Oh well…
Isn’t it amazing how much technology has progressed! Now you can enjoy such wonderful meals in school! I hope they expand their menu.
