Crock Pot Slow Cooker!

At long last! A crock pot slow cooker! I’ve been yearning for this baby for ages! The very thought of cooking my own delicious soups and stews has been on my mind for years! I can’t believe I only just got this!

Behold the crock pot!

You must be wondering – why bother with a crock pot when you can make soups and stews in a normal pot or even a pressure cooker? Well, two answers. First, a crock pot cooks your soup/stew very slowly with a very low heat, which is able to draw out more flavours than if you had cooked it normally. Second, since it’s using a low heat to cook, it requires a long time to cook, and this makes it the perfect appliance for those who are out of the house. Just prepare the ingredients in the morning, throw them all into the crock pot, switch it on, and leave the house for work. And when you’re back home in the evening, you’ve got a super delicious meal waiting for you! While waiting for your rice to cook, you can take a nice refreshing shower. Or, if you’re very very hungry, you can just boil noodles in a few minutes and voila – you’re ready to eat! That’s what I like about it.

Alternatively, I can prepare my ingredients at night, cook them in the crock pot while I sleep, and wake up to a delicious meal that’s ready for packing! In fact, I can keep the leftovers for dinner!

You get to save on time! There’s no need to wait an hour or two for dinner to be ready. That’s what I love about it.

So… What was the first dish that I cooked?

It was… Ginseng chicken soup!

You can’t see the chicken because it’s at the bottom. Here’s something really cool – quite some time ago, I noticed that the supermarkets are selling  pre-packed Chinese herbs that you can use to make different types of soups. I’ve always wanted to give it a try, especially since I’ve not been taught how to mix the various herbs for a healthy yet delicious meal. I thought to myself – today’s definitely the perfect time to give it a try. So I bought one of those pre-packed herbs and chicken, and tossed them into the crock pot!

Five hours later, boy was in in for the most wonderful treat ever! The soup was soooooo tasty and delicious! I didn’t even have to add any salt! It was so sweet and so rich in flavour, it was amazing! This has got to be one of the best home-made soups I’ve ever drank! WOW! That’s all I can say. It was just so amazing. Can you imagine how much richer the soup will be if I had left it cooking throughout the entire day (or night)?

I have left overs that I shall pack for tomorrow’s lunch. Oh… It’s going to taste even better tomorrow, especially since all the ingredients will be left soaking inside a container overnight. I don’t know why, but leftover soups, stews, and curries always taste significantly better. I’m so excited!

I’m so glad I got my crock pot. More delicious soups and stews await!
