I came home late today feeling extremely tired. I still had to cook something for dinner, so I boiled some noodles, vegetables and mushrooms, and added this:
Yes, that’s right! It’s a whole slab of silken tofu – steamed, with a drizzle of soy sauce, covered with toasted black and white sesame seeds. Oh wow! It was sooooo delicious! The tofu was so soft and tender. And because it’s hot, the whole thing just melts in your mouth! And as you close your eyes and mouth to savour the taste and texture of the silken tofu, the soy sauce drips down, touching your tongue, igniting your taste buds with an exploding sensation of flavours! It’s amazing what a little bit of soy sauce can do to enhance your tofu-eating experience. But that’s not all! As you move your mouth to chew, your teeth crunches on the toasted sesame seeds, and you experience the complementary sensations of both the soft tofu and the “hard” crunchy seeds. And with each light crunch, you crack open the sesame seeds, releasing the fragrant sesame flavours onto your tongue, igniting a different series of sensations within your mouth. The flavours of the soy sauce and the sesame seeds alternate with every moment of enjoyment, enhancing the flavour of the tofu in so many ways.
It’s pretty amazing what a simple dish can do!
It was so comforting, and at the same time, so very satisfying. What a fantastic dinner!
