Today, I went to check out several chinese book shops with a friend at Bras Basah Complex for the first time. It’s odd how I’ve been going there for years on a regular basis and have never checked out those shops.
Today, I came across one of the most amazing things ever, though I don’t know what it’s called in English. It’s some paper-like thing for you to practise chinese calligraphy with. What’s amazing about it is that you use water instead of ink. And when you use the brush to write on it, the paper will react with the water, and the words will magically appear as though ink suddenly rose out of the paper. After a while, as the water evaporates, the words will slowly vanish.
The effect is simply amazing. It’s not jaw-dropping, but it’s the sort of thing that would stir up a “wow” from within.
What’s really awesome about it is the price. I would have thought something like this costs SGD$10, but no. It costs only SGD$1.50!!! What an amazing deal!
Some of the best things I’ve ever got are around SGD$2. Thank God for the $2 shop! My calligraphy brush costs SGD$2. The ink (very good quality) also costs SGD$2. The stack of calligraphy paper also costs SGD$2! My… What a really affordable hobby!
